Foundation Program
The Foundation Program is a three-hour class designed for children aged 5 to 6. Around this age the child’s concentration develops and they are able to focus for longer periods of time. The foundation program recognises the development journey of the child and provides the bridge between early childhood and full-day Elementary learning.
The program builds on the child’s growing independence and deepening curiosity. With live Montessori guidance and purposeful hands-on activities, children continue developing foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and critical thinking, preparing them for the next stage of their educational journey.
Content & Curriculum
The Foundation Program supports key academic growth while nurturing the child’s confidence and love of learning. Areas of focus include:
Phonics & Reading: Advancing sound-symbol association, decoding, and early reading fluency
Writing: Building strength and control through writing practice, beginning sentence structure
Mathematics: Early operations, place value, number sense, and an introduction to geometry through sensorial materials
Cultural Subjects: Early exposure to Cosmic Education themes — such as the Earth, living/non-living things, time, and timelines
Art & Movement: Integrated opportunities for creativity, body awareness, and expression
Children work at their own pace with individualized lessons in a calm, focused virtual classroom, guided by an experienced AMI Montessori teacher.
